Physical Education Standards

Using state guidelines, LCCS has compiled a list of physical education standards. These PE skills and health content are to be introduced progressively over the elementary years. Physical ability and knowledge base are expected to increase with age, yet mastery is not expected until the end of 5th grade.

These standards will be meet through:

  1. Monthly PE classes lead by LCCS parents (usually dads)

  2. Field trips (to sport or health facilities)

  3. Guest speakers on health topics

  4. Purposeful games at weekly recess (Suggested Game List)

While state standards include programs on Sexual Education and Alcohol, Tobacco and Drug Use, LCCS omits them as part of our in-class PE program. To protect the moral innocence of our children, LCCS believes that these topics are better addressed in the home at the discretion of the parents.

Please take these goals into consideration when assisting with recess, planning PE class or organizing field trips or guest speakers.

The suggested recess games list below was created as a resource for recess volunteers. The games highlighted here where chosen because 1) they meet LCCS PE standards, 2) LCCS has some or allof  the needed equipment at school, 3) they are age appropriate for our group, and 4) they were relatively easy to understand and implement. For other game options, you can visit www.pecentral.com. Please use LCCS PE standards and K-3 age range when selecting games.

Suggested PE Games and Activities

Below is a list of LSSC's PE supplies and an abbreviated  list of possible PE games. Please check to see if LCCS has the needed equipment for the game you choose. If not, you will need to bring your own resources or make up a creative alternative. For example, instead of 50 real balls you can make 50 paper balls by wading up sheets of paper. These can be used in place of bean bags also.  Come visit the PE supply area - it may spark your own imagination!

LCCS has the following PE equipment:

  • 8 hula hoops
  • 2 soccer balls
  • 1 kick ball
  • several small balls
  • 40+ small cones
  • horseshoe set
  • bean bag toss set
  • 1 large bubble wand - but NO bubble juice (?)
  • Puzzles
